Jewish History

Now in its sixth year, the Catskills Institute, a group of Catskills veterans who work to preserve the many important elements of Catskills culture. The Catskills Institute conducts the Annual History of the Catskills Conference (the sixth is coming this August 2000), publishes the newsletter In the Mountains, runs a website, coordinates research activities, and collects archives for its special collection at the American Jewish Historical Society.

Since Council Vatican II (Nostra Aetate § 4) Church has changed its mind and attitude towards Jews. But does it mean that Christian mentalities have changed in the same way? Christian anti-Jewish stereotypes are still widespread and theological views on Judaism are far from beeing satisfactory. Our site provides materials (articles, papers, extracts of books, Christian official statements and Jewish reactions,etc.) for deeper and further reflexion and insight on these matters.

Historical information on Eli Cohen, Our Spy in Damascus, is known as Israel's greatest spy. His espionage work in Syria prevented the divergence of the flow water into Israel and his work won the Golan Heights for Israel during the War of 1967. This year we honor the 40th Anniversary of his execution with the Eli Cohen Memorial Tour, May 8-19, 2005.
