This center party was formed by Prime Minister Ariel Sharon at the end of 2005, when he quit his ruling Likud party and hence triggered the elections.
The party is made up of leading politicans from both the Labour (left wing) and Likud (right wing) parties and is expected based on the polls to win the elections as the largest party to form the next government.
Following the dramatic health problems of Ariel Sharon, his number 2, Ehud Olmert has come in as acting Prime Minister and will lead the list for the Kadima party.
Kadima defines itself as a broad popular movement which works to ensure the future of Israel as a Jewish democratic state.
Kadima supports the Road Map for a two-state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
